If you’ve seen the movie, Inside Out, you are familiar with the character Joy.
One day after we had seen the movie, my girls and I were walking down the cereal aisle of a grocery store when one of my daughter’s spotted a cereal box that said, “Find Joy Inside.”
So, we bought the cereal and when we got home, my daughter eagerly started digging in the cereal to find Joy, who we were made to believe was inside that box. After looking and looking and not finding Joy, we saw a message on the inside of that cereal box that said, “Sorry.”
What a disappointment!
Instantly I thought, “Wow, how true is that in life!” There are so many things that promise us joy such as being part of the “in” group, material possessions, achievement, money, a fit body . . . you name it. But we eventually find out that those things can’t bring joy.
If we want to find true joy, it is imperative that we go to the source. Psalm 16:11 points us to the source,
You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore.
True joy is found in God’s presence – in His Word – the Bible, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. These are just some of the places where we can bask in God’s presence.
If you have been chasing something that promised you joy, only to discover a big “Sorry” at the end of your pursuit, why not turn to the true source of joy – God. He’s waiting with joy beyond your wildest dreams. Joy unspeakable and full of glory. And joy that never disappoints.
